Communication and Administration Coordinator Job Description

Position: Communication and Administration Coordinator for a small downtown church

Reports to: Rector (Priest), Vestry (Board)

Job Type: Part-time, permanent:  10 hours/week, flexible schedule

Location: Work from home and/or from shared office; occasional evening meetings (monthly or so)

Salary: $17/hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

As ten hours weekly is not sufficient for all the following tasks, the position will be negotiated to include some but not all of the following, according to the skills and interests of the person hired.

Coordinating Communications

  • Manage communications between parish leaders and with parishioners, including arranging and announcing meetings;
  • Format and solicit content for parish newsletters, event announcements, prayer request lists;
  • Format/design posters, website postings, and Facebook postings;
  • Upload videos, announcements etc to Facebook page and website;
  • Convey the particular character and feel of this special church family in all design and communications;

Administrative Duties

  • Assist the rector and leadership in discerning needs related to technology and communications equipment and subscriptions;
  • Manage documentation such as attendance, offerings, Vestry minutes, year-end reporting, Record books, contacts database; including paper and digital files;
  • Distribute materials, printing and mailings as needed;
  • Compile and distribute meeting minutes and reports;

Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills;
  • Able to communicate with compassion, sensitivity, discretion and confidentiality;
  • Ability to problem-solve and research to advise/make informed decisions;
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems (using Office);
  • Commitment to anti-racism and affirming of gender and sexual diversity are required;
  • Completion of a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Check required upon hiring (a criminal record does not disqualify the applicant, but the Vulnerable Persons check must clear)
  • Familiarity with a website platform such as WordPress an asset;
  • Understanding the character and culture of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church an asset.
